"The Fifth Portal" is an exciting new science fiction novel written by author/artist Ron Gross. Ron is otherwise known for a trilogy of officially licensed books devoted to "Lost in Space" and the other Irwin Allen television properties. While "The Fifth Portal" shares a common artistic style with Ron's previously published books, it constitutes a completely independent project that emphasizes a variety of the author's other interests. That said, it is likely that avid fans of "Lost in Space" and the other Irwin Allen TV classics will find everything to like in this new book. The same might also be said of those who place "Jurassic Park" and "Ancient Aliens" on their all time 'favorites' list.

"The Fifth Portal" is a virtual thrill ride of adventures involving a mysterious, ancient stone chamber, time/space travel, and ultimately alien contact. Although it is written in an old-fashioned "Hardy Boys" type of style, the story is intended to appeal to readers of all ages. Follow the adventures of two unwitting teen-agers named Tommy and Pete as they witness and participate in various key events of Earth's geologic past, and ultimately discover various secrets of the universe.

LOST IN SPACE: THE INITIAL ADVENTURES

This 8" x 10" full-color volume consists of 194 pages and over 200 illustrations covering three decades of artistic contributions to the world of Irwin Allen by author / artist Ron Gross. In development for more than three years, the book features many artistic works that have never been seen before!

Included are Ron's acclaimed scratch built models, with a special emphasis on his Jupiter 2 prototype creation that eventually became the basis for the production kit marketed by Polar Lights in 1998.

Also included are Ron's box art contributions to various model kits offered by Moebius Models, other licensed materials including his entire Irwin Allen Poster Art series from 2015 through 2021, and Ron's new Lost in Space trading card set produced in collaboration with Monsterwax.com.

In addition, there is a section that covers some of Ron's boyhood art from that magical era when Lost in Space  was still on the air in prime time!

The book also features a tribute to Kevin Burns, and a compelling Foreword by Laen August, host of the popular "Alpha Control" podcast. It represents an absolute MUST HAVE  for all fans of Lost in Space, especially those who appreciate the earlier, more dramatic episodes of the first season!

Ron Gross has a distinctive manner of dignifying this 1960's TV classic, and all of his tantalizing illustrations are reproduced in rich, full color after considerable research relating to color accuracy!

The new "Lost in Space Technical Handbook" is the culmination of decades of research  into the compelling hardware seen on the classic series Lost in Space. The brilliantly diverse hardware of the show is represented objectively, in a "studio production" type of format. Many original special effects "secrets" are finally revealed. This book, now a full 35+ years in the making, proudly completes my initially planned three volume set devoted to Lost in Space and the other Irwin Allen TV properties.

There are a total of 50 technical blueprint views in this 160 page volume, some of which have been duplicated in a dramatic colored line-on-black scheme. Coverage Includes the
Jupiter 2, Robot, Chariot, Space Pod, weaponry, and an assortment of accessory hardware. A final chapter also describes selected "alien" technology and related props.

This officially licensed project has been augmented by my other licensed artwork, and selected contributions from various well known artisans including Bill Hedges and Tom Pfrogner (of "Collector's Call" fame). It even includes a special chapter on custom scale modeling options based on the original studio props and plans.

Book purchases through this site include a personalized autograph unless other instructions are requested.

This 8" x 10" full color volume is an illustrated novelization of the early story arc that launched the series. Think of it as an expanded version of the new trading card set, but including even more detail and graphic images. It utilizes many of my past poster art pieces, plus several new images to fully round out the story. The classic "first five' episodes are the focal point of this project.

But it doesn't stop there. I have also included a special edition of the "lost" sixth episode entitled
"Refuge of the Damned" that was briefly outlined, but never developed. It explains the mysterious aliens that were seen at the end of the unaired pilot and in the summer, 1965 promo, but who never actually appeared in the series.

I have also included various "lost" scenes throughout the entire novel. These are basically sequences that were scripted but never filmed, or in some cases, filmed but eventually cut. Finally, there are comprehensive support sections that explain all of the above in more detail, and even cover selected other episodes that came after the classic "first five" (or in this case, the "first six.")
